What language levels do you cover?

We cover all levels of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR): A1 and A2 (beginner and elementary), B1 and B2 (intermediate and upper-intermediate), C1 and C2 (advanced and proficient). Before the course begins, we offer a placement test to assess your level and place you in the most suitable class, allowing you to study with classmates who have similar skills.

How is the didactical plan structured?

The didactical plan is organized into progressive modules, each with clear objectives for comprehension, speaking and writing, vocabulary, and grammar. Each module includes communication activities, guided exercises, homework, and assessments. At the end of each level, you will receive, upon request, a certificate of participation indicating your level achieved.

What is the typical course duration?

The duration varies depending on the type of course. Intensive courses typically last two weeks, with the option to extend the course level by level. Extensive courses often take place over five-week cycles. Individual online courses are more flexible and can be customized, with lesson packages tailored to your needs and time availability.

How many hours of lessons are scheduled per week?

Intensive courses typically include between 15 and 25 hours of lessons per week, spread over 3–5 days. Extensive courses typically include 4–8 hours per week, in the morning, afternoon, or evening. For individual online lessons, the number of hours per week is agreed upon directly with the student, based on their objectives and desired learning pace.

What is the average class size?

We keep classes deliberately small to ensure personalized attention and ample time for conversation. On average, classes consist of 4 to 6 students, with a maximum of 8 students. This allows the teacher to closely monitor each student's progress and adapt activities to the group's needs.

What is the teaching method?

We use a communicative approach, focusing on the student and real-world use of the language. Lessons combine clear explanations with many practical activities: dialogues, role-plays, group work, listening, and authentic readings. The goal is to develop all skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) in a balanced way, with particular attention to speaking confidence and understanding everyday Italian.

Quali materiali didattici vengono utilizzati?

We use up-to-date textbooks specifically for Italian as a second language, teacher-prepared worksheets, digital exercises, videos, podcasts, newspaper articles, simplified literary passages, and authentic materials (menus, schedules, announcements, real documents). In our online courses, we use interactive platforms to share materials, assignments, and recordings. All key materials are included or clearly indicated at the beginning of the course.

Individual and group courses

How can I enrol to courses at the ITALIAN ACADEMY FOR FOREIGNERS?

You can register by completing the online enrolment form on our website. After selecting your course and start dates, you will receive confirmation of availability and instructions for paying the registration fee. Registration is considered complete only after receipt of the required payment and the required documentation.

Are there any initial language requirements or placement tests?

You do not need a minimum level of Italian to register for beginner courses. If you have already studied Italian, we will ask you to complete a short online Italian grammar test and in some cases, take an oral exam on the first day of class. This allows us to place you in the class best suited to your level, thus promoting effective learning and a consistent study environment.

How do the placement tests and level placement work?

After the online enrolment, you will receive a link to a short Italian grammar test. Based on your results, you will then be assigned to the most suitable class. If after the first few days you feel your level is too easy or too difficult, we can discuss a possible class change together.

What payment methods are accepted?

We accept various payment methods: international bank transfer, credit/debit card via secure online payment via Stripe. A deposit is usually required to confirm your registration, while the balance must be paid by a specific date before the course begins. All bank details and deadlines will be included in the registration confirmation you will receive by email.

Are refunds available in the event of withdrawal or cancellation?

Our refund policies depend on the time of cancellation. If you notify us sufficiently in advance of the course start date, you may be entitled to a partial refund or to transfer the fee to another session. Cancellations very close to the start of the course or no-shows may not be refundable. All conditions are specified in the registration regulations we will send you.

What is the course cancellation policy?

In the event of a cancellation, please notify us in writing via email. Generally, cancellations made several weeks before the start of the course will incur reduced penalties, while cancellations made close to the start date may result in the loss of all or part of the fee paid. If the cancellation is due to a visa refusal, we may consider a refund or postponement upon submission of official documentation.

What are the typical class schedules?

Classes generally take place Monday through Friday, in the morning and/or afternoon. Intensive courses typically include 3–4 hours of lessons per day, with short breaks. The exact schedule may vary depending on the level, type of course, and time of year.

How is the calendar of courses structured?

Our calendar of new courses is organized into sessions or modules that can last from a few weeks to several months. There are breaks throughout the year for national holidays and, in some cases, short breaks between modules. Recommended start dates and key deadlines are published on the website and communicated by email upon registration, so you can plan your stay in Italy in advance.

Can I join a course after it has already started?

In many cases, it's possible to join a course that's already underway, especially if you already have some basic Italian and there are places available in the class. We recommend contacting us in advance to check the feasibility and assess your level. If you arrive late, we can suggest remedial materials or support lessons to fill any gaps.

Does the Academy help find accommodation for international students?

We offer accommodation support, connecting you with host families, shared apartments, student residences, or other approved options. We'll ask you to tell us your preferences (room type, budget, length of stay), and we'll do our best to offer suitable options. Final accommodation booking and payments are subject to each provider's specific terms and conditions.

Do you offer personalized tutoring or academic support?

For students who require additional assistance, we offer individual or small group tutoring services upon request. You can use these hours to deepen your grammatical skills, prepare for certification exams, or work on specific needs (conversation, writing, and specialized vocabulary). The tutors are qualified teachers from the Academy, and meetings are scheduled at times compatible with regular classes.

The internal certificate does not replace official state certifications, but rather provides formal proof of the work performed and the skills acquired.

Before enroling, we offer a grammar test and an first orientation meeting to understand your starting point, timeframe, and goals (study, work, integration).
